One of our OC families, comprising two of our OCs, Tom and Ben, Kate, their Mum, who works in the Finance Team, and their Dad, Scott, took part in a cycle ride from Kings College in London to Winchester and then Winchester to Bristol over two days this weekend.

The bike ride was in memory of Kate’s brother, Alan, who suffered a fatal seizure in his sleep aged just 27 in 1990. The family have been fundraising as well as trying to raise awareness of the charity, SUDEP Action (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy), and the bike ride was to mark what would have been Alan’s 60th birthday on 8th May.

You can read more about Alan and about the charity here and there is information on how you can donate to the Just Giving Page if you would like.

Kate Fisher, Assistant Bursar said “I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all of your support for our charity bike ride this weekend.  We had the most fabulous, exhausting couple of days, cycled 160 miles with over 6,000 feet of elevation, London to Winchester and then Winchester to Bristol. We were met in Winchester by many of my brothers’ old neighbours and barrister colleagues together with the MP for Winchester Steve Brine who is also the Chair of the Health and Social Care Select Committee."

Kate’s sons, OCs Tom and Ben, also took part along with Kate’s husband Scott. Ben, who left school in 2016, said “I really enjoyed the weekend and feel very lucky to have been able to support a charity that means so much to our family. the support which we have received has been amazing and we all want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated!”

Tom, who left school in 2016 said “A weekend I won’t forget in a long time and one that was surprisingly really enjoyable. Thanks so much for all the donations”
